How to Get Your Refund

Your refund, your way



Cash Voucher

  1. Insert containers
  2. Select ‘Voucher‘ when finished
  3. You’ll recieve a voucher to redeem at either Woolworths, Coles or IGA (check voucher for redemption partner).

Bank Transfer

  1. Download the Containers for Change app and select Bank Transfer as your payout method.
  2. Enter your bank details (account name, BSB and account number) and save.
  3. Scan your member number at the machine before returning your containers.
    Your refund will be transferred to your nominated bank account within 1 business day.

PayPal

  1. Download the Containers for Change app and select PayPal as your payout method.
  2. Log in to your PayPal account and link it to your Containers for Change member number.
  3. Scan your barcode before starting your session and insert your containers.
  4. Your refund will appear in your PayPal account within 1 business day

Charity Donation

  1. Choose a cause from the Directory of Good Causes
  2. Scan the causes’ barcode at the machine before returning your containers
  3. Select ‘Payout’ when finished. The charity will recieve 100% of your refund

Go paperless – get refunded into your bank account!

1. Register for Member Number

Visit the Containers For Change website to sign up. 

2. Get Barcode

From your confirmation email, save your member number barcode to your mobile wallet.

3. Scan and Return

Scan your barcode at any TOMRA Kiosk or Recycling Centre before returning containers.

4. Get your Refund

When finished, press ‘Transfer’. You will instantly receive an email confirmation & your refund will be transferred to your nominated bank or PayPal account within one business day.

Make sure you keep your barcode in a safe place. We recommend logging into the Containers for Change app so it’s always at your fingertips! Alterntively, you can take a screenshot, save it to your digital wallet, or even print it!

How do I sign up for a member number?

Signing up is easy! Head to the Containers for Change website, simply click ‘Sign up’ and follow the instructions to enter your bank account details and/or link to your PayPal.

There is an issue claiming my refund, how do I chase this?

Our dedicated team of customer service professionals will work with you to ensure that your refund is recognised. 

Do I need to remove lids from containers?

We accept bottles with the lids on (as long as they’re empty) or with the lids removed. If you take the lids off, just bring them along and drop them into the lid bins at the refund point—we’ll recycle those too.

How can I return my containers?

At TOMRA, we have 2 options to return your containers: 

Reverse Vending Machines  
available at all TOMRA locations. 

Reverse Vending Machines allow you to return your containers quickly and get your refund right away. Simply insert your empty containers into the chute at the front of the machine. Containers will be scanned to ensure they are eligible for a refund.  

When you’ve finished depositing the containers, the Reverse Vending Machine will issue the refund. 

You have the choice of how to receive your refund, with options including a cash voucher, digitally to your bank/PayPal account, or as a donation to a charity, school, sports or community group. For more information on how to get your refund, view more information below in our Refund section.

Drop & Go 
available at our Recycling Centres in Belmont, Kelmscott, Joondalup, Osborne Park and Myaree 

Drop and Go is TOMRA’s newest service, making it quick and easy to return containers – (especially in bulk!) Simply tip your containers into the designated bin, provide the staff with your Containers for Change member number, and we will process for you! Your refund will go into your nominated bank or PayPal account within 48 hours of processing – but usually straight away!
