Exciting Milestone for TOMRA New Zealand!

On Monday, we proudly launched our very first in-store Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) at a local supermarket—marking a significant step forward in container recycling for New Zealand residents!

Customers can now return eligible single-use drink containers and choose to donate the proceeds to one of four local schools. To celebrate this milestone, we were joined by the enthusiastic students of Kauri Park School, their principal Thomas Bigge, representatives from Foodstuffs, Parul Sood (Deputy Director Resilience & Infrastructure at Auckland Council), and our generous hosts, store owners Mark and Heidi Brittenden.

The event showcased the full potential of the RVM and sparked meaningful conversations about our plans to grow the network and champion a Container Return Scheme (CRS) for Aotearoa. A special highlight? Seeing the kids try out the machine for the first time!

Over the next six months, TOMRA, Foodstuffs, and New World Birkenhead will work closely together to raise awareness about the benefits of RVMs and the long-term value of investing in a national CRS.

Here’s to growing a more sustainable future—one container at a time.
